Traveling With a Pet in Atlanta: Which Ride Can You Use?

Pet travel · Choosing a ride

Before choosing a ride in Atlanta, check two things: whether the service accepts your pet and whether your carrier meets its rules. MARTA requires a rigid carrier. An app’s pet option has its own conditions. For a prebooked car, get a clear answer about your pet before reserving.

This guide covers ordinary pets. Service animals have separate rules: MARTA permits qualifying service animals to ride unconfined, and Uber says you do not need to choose Uber Pet when traveling with a service animal.

MARTA needs a rigid carrier

On MARTA trains, streetcars and buses, a pet must be carried aboard in a secure, rigid carrier with a lock or latch that prevents escape. That is the requirement in MARTA’s pet policy. A soft sling or fabric bag is not the rigid carrier it specifies.

Check the carrier before planning the station walk. You will also need to manage your bags and any transfers. If your current carrier does not meet the rule, choose a suitable carrier or another transport option before leaving home.

Uber Pet keeps you and your pet together

Enter the trip in the app and look for Uber Pet among the available options. Availability varies by location, and ordinary ride options do not all allow pets. Review the displayed price before requesting the ride.

Uber’s published pet guidance allows one pet per trip. It calls for a leash, harness or carrier for a dog or cat, and a carrier for other pets. Stay with your pet throughout the ride and ask the driver where it should sit. Uber also recommends a towel or blanket to protect the seat.

The price may include a pet fee. Waste, excessive hair or damage can lead to a cleaning fee. Check both the ride option and its terms for the return trip too.

For a prebooked car, ask about the actual pet and carrier

Tell the company the type and number of pets, their approximate size, and whether you will travel with them. Give the carrier’s outside dimensions, the passenger count and the bags you expect to bring. Get acceptance for that combination before paying or reserving.

Ask how the carrier should be secured, whether you must supply it, and what pet or cleaning charges apply. A larger vehicle may help with space, but its size alone does not confirm pet acceptance. The sedan, SUV and Sprinter luggage guide explains how to describe the rest of your load.

If the pet needs to travel without you, seek a dedicated pet transport service and confirm who handles collection and handoff. An accompanied passenger ride does not by itself include pet care while you attend a meeting, appointment or event.

For an ATL Limo chauffeur trip, request a quote with your pet and carrier details, or call +1 (315) 381-4222. Ask whether the specific trip can be accepted, including the return, before making a reservation.
