Flying into Atlanta and driving on to another city? Check whether you can collect the rental with your payment card before you rely on the booking. A company may offer one-way rentals and accept debit cards, yet place conditions on using both for your trip.

What the published pickup rules say

These examples show why a general “debit cards accepted” label is not enough. Read the terms for the pickup location and vehicle you plan to use.

Enterprise at ATLDebit-card pickup requires a ticketed return travel itinerary. If you have no return travel ticket, do not treat a one-way car reservation as proof that you qualify.
Avis at ATLThe airport terms require proof of a return airline ticket for debit use. Prepayment does not waive pickup requirements.Check eligibility before paying. A card that works online may not meet the required pickup conditions.
Budget Atlanta debit-card offerThe local offer excludes one-way rentals and notes that airport conditions may vary.Do not use that offer as proof of one-way eligibility. Its exclusion is not a statement that every Budget one-way debit rental is prohibited.

A car’s return location and your return travel ticket are different parts of the trip. If you will fly home from another airport, ask the ATL branch whether that ticket meets its rule. Do not assume that “one-way” always means no return flight—or that any onward flight will qualify.

Age, identification, vehicle class and available funds can also affect pickup. Confirm the conditions attached to your own booking; the comparison above is not a complete rental agreement.

Ask the branch about the whole journey

Give the pickup branch the car’s return location, your travel dates and your actual flight plan. A useful question is:

“I’m collecting at ATL and returning the car at a different location. I plan to use a bank debit card. Here is my flight itinerary. Does it meet your pickup rules, and what documents and available funds must I bring?”

If there is no return ticket, say that directly. Ask for the applicable policy or written confirmation before committing to a prepaid rate. If you already paid, review the booking’s change and cancellation terms before replacing it; do not assume a refund is automatic.

For coworkers sharing the driving, check each driver’s eligibility too. Enterprise’s ATL policy allows only a spouse or domestic partner as an additional driver on a debit-secured rental. Having enough seats does not mean every colleague may drive.

Confirm the drop-off and total cost

An approved card does not confirm the one-way route. Enter the real return branch when requesting the rental. Enterprise’s one-way guidance says these rentals must be booked in advance at participating locations; a drop or mileage charge may apply, and the rate can differ from a same-location return.

Compare the quoted rental total with the other travel options, including the costs that apply to your journey, such as fuel and parking. Keep the deposit or card hold separate from the rental price: it affects the funds available to you while the hold remains in place. Ask the branch for the amount and release process for your booking.

If the rental does not fit, choose the onward ride first

A rental can still be useful when you need a car throughout your stay. Another branch or provider may have different rules, but confirm its terms and the trip to that branch before changing plans.

For a single journey, compare a regional shared ride or intercity service with a private transfer. Check the actual departure point, final stop and baggage terms. Our Atlanta-to-Birmingham transport guide shows how bus, train, driving and a private car differ once station connections are included.

Once your rental is confirmed, use the correct airport connection. ATL’s ground transportation page directs Domestic travelers to the SkyTrain for the Rental Car Center; International travelers have a direct Rental Car Center shuttle. A prebooked chauffeur has separate meeting instructions—use the ATL chauffeur pickup guide and your booking confirmation.
