Buying MARTA Fares for a Group: Cards, Passes and Lead Time

You can pay for your team’s MARTA travel, but you cannot tap one card and pass it back to everyone. Each paying rider needs a separate payment method. Decide whether guests will pay for themselves or receive a funded Breeze card from you before they reach the station.

Choose who pays before buying cards

Guests pay as they travel

Each rider can use a contactless bank card or supported mobile wallet. If your company will repay the cost, explain its expense process before the trip. This avoids buying and handing out fare cards.

The host supplies the fares

Buy a separate Breeze card for each paying rider. MARTA’s group-payment FAQ says touchscreen vending machines can sell multiple cards in one transaction. Buying them together does not make them one shared card.

A new physical Breeze card costs $2 before adding fare. MARTA currently lists paper tickets as temporarily unavailable on its Ways to Pay page. Plan around cards or contactless payment, and check that notice again before buying.

A group order does not always mean a discount

15 or more cards
MARTA directs buyers to group sales at 404-848-5501. Ask how to place and receive the order for your travel dates.
200 or more day passes
This is where bulk day-pass discounts start. A smaller order does not qualify just because the travelers are a group.

MARTA asks buyers to allow 10–15 business days for order processing. Its group-sales instructions offer delivery to one address or in-person collection. Confirm the handoff date; processing time is not a promise that cards will reach each guest before departure.

Cards in one group order must have the same fare type loaded. MARTA’s ordering guidance requires a separate order for a different fare type. If some guests attend for one day and others stay longer, settle that split before ordering.

Match the pass to the rides

A standard one-way MARTA fare is $2.50 per person. Two one-way trips cost $5, while a one-day pass costs $9. For someone making only a trip to the event and a return, the day pass costs more. A newly purchased physical Breeze card adds $2 to either choice.

More rides can change the comparison. Use the current fare list and each guest’s actual plans. Transfers on an eligible one-way journey are different from a return trip, which needs another fare.

Put the fare in the traveler’s hands

If guests will use rail from the airport, handing out their cards at conference registration is too late. Send them in advance or arrange a clear handoff before the first ride. Tell each traveler what is loaded and which card is theirs. Keep the purchase receipt for your own records.

Payment is only one part of the plan. For a GWCC event, use the convention-center travel guide to match the station and building entrance. Check whether each guest can manage the walk and their bags.
