Georgia Journey Guide
A bus can take you from an Atlanta stop to West Oglethorpe Avenue in Savannah. A private car can begin at your home, hotel, office or ATL Airport and end at the exact hotel, campus, port or meeting address. Compare the complete journey, not only the hours spent moving between the two cities.
Bus schedules, fares and stop details were checked September 26, 2026. Prices and departure times can change, so use your ticket as the final instruction.
Bus, self-drive or private car: what changes?
| Option | Current planning basis | What you still need to arrange |
|---|---|---|
| Intercity bus | Published from $38.98 per person; fastest listed trip 3 hours 10 minutes | Travel to the Atlanta stop and onward travel from the Savannah station |
| Self-drive | Roughly 250 road miles; total cost depends on fuel, parking and the vehicle | Driving, breaks, parking and the return journey |
| Private car | Trip-specific per-vehicle quote based on the route, vehicle, stops and schedule | Confirm the pickup, destination, passengers, luggage and return plan |
The bus is usually the clearest budget choice for one traveler with a simple schedule. Self-driving offers flexibility but leaves one person responsible for the entire trip and parking. A private car costs more than a bus seat, but the group travels together from the chosen pickup to the final address.
Taking a bus from Atlanta to Savannah
The FlixBus and Greyhound booking pages currently list four daily connections, a fastest advertised trip of 3 hours 10 minutes and fares starting at $38.98. That is a starting fare, not the price of every departure. Your travel date, departure and ticket type can change the total.
The listed Atlanta stops include the Atlanta Bus Station at 232 Forsyth Street, the Civic Center stop at 435 West Peachtree Street NW and an ATL Airport stop at 6000 North Terminal Drive. Not every trip uses every stop. Read the exact address on the ticket before arranging your ride there.
In Savannah, the route page lists Savannah Bus Station at 610 West Oglethorpe Avenue. Reaching that station is not the same as reaching your hotel. Check the distance from the station to your final address and arrange the last part before you board in Atlanta.
Check the baggage rule for the operator shown on your ticket. The published FlixBus allowance includes one carry-on up to 7 kg and one checked bag up to 20 kg, while Greyhound publishes different carry-on measurements and weights. Oversized luggage, extra bags or mobility equipment may need advance arrangements.
Driving or booking a private car
The usual road journey runs southeast from Atlanta toward I-16 and Savannah. Treat any map estimate as driving time, not door-to-door time. Add the Atlanta pickup, a fuel or comfort stop, traffic near Savannah and time to reach the actual entrance.
If you drive yourself, compare hotel parking before leaving Atlanta. A low room rate can be less useful when parking is costly or located several blocks away. Also decide who will drive back after a long day, wedding, business dinner or cruise departure.
With long-distance car service from Atlanta, you can request one-way or return transportation to the specific Savannah address. Tell ATL Limo about any planned stop, passenger who needs extra time, large luggage or fixed arrival deadline before requesting the quote.
For a group, compare one vehicle quote with the combined cost of several bus tickets, transport to the Atlanta station and rides from the Savannah station. Do not compare a per-person bus fare with a per-vehicle private quote as if they were priced on the same basis.
Choose the exact Savannah destination
“Savannah” is not a complete drop-off instruction. Use the street address and the entrance name. A Historic District hotel, Savannah Convention Center, Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, cruise-related meeting point and private home can require different arrival plans.
If the destination is inside the Historic District, ask the hotel where vehicles should unload and whether the main entrance is on the street shown in your map. Some properties have a separate valet or loading entrance. That detail can prevent a final walk with luggage around the block.
For an appointment or event, use the time you must be inside the building. Add time to unload, find the entrance and check in. The fastest advertised bus or road time does not include those steps.
Plan the Savannah-to-Atlanta return before leaving
A one-way journey is easy to plan in isolation. The return can become the harder part when a meeting ends late, a wedding runs longer than expected or the available bus departure does not match hotel checkout.
For a bus, price the return on the same day you price the outbound trip. Confirm the Savannah boarding address and arrival stop in Atlanta. A return to the airport may not use the same Atlanta stop as a return to Downtown.
For a private car, decide whether you need a same-day round trip, a later pickup or separate one-way transfers. If the schedule can change, include that fact in the quote request. Travelers heading north can compare the fixed airport shuttle and door-to-door options in our Atlanta-to-Chattanooga guide.
